Object-User-Emotion

It is good to be back early after being home for a month, but now it is the time to continue work again !!
Whilst I was at home I could never stop thinking about how to develop my ideas. Talking to other friends who study Graphic Design helped me channel my ideas and overcome any difficulties I found developing ideas. Firstly, we agree that I need to narrow down the whole idea, and I need to be focused on one particular aspect of objects and object relations that is of interest to me. I need to think in terms of what do I think of objects as well as what I believe it is about certain objects that attracts some people and not others.

Here are some thoughts I came up with,

How are some objects designed and redesigned to change how perceptions and expectations of how we normally see, use and think of them, in terms of what they are, what they are made of and what they are designed for. But, I don't think that's what I wanted to do in the first place, since I wanted to focus on something like the "human-object relationship" looking at things like how do we interact with objects we have. There are many objects we interact with on a daily basis which help us meet our basic needs. Most people no longer recognise or acknowledge most objects for anything other than the role it plays in helping us satisfy our needs, so it may be of interest to experiment with the way in which our basic needs are met by certain objects and what contributes to our perception of them. Then, someone suggested to look at more books on philosophy to try and get some similar information and find out how objects themselves express emotions. I thought that may be interesting; it is possible to build deeper, reciprocal relationship between an object and its user. But, can we create emotional connections with objects by re-assessing and re-designing our interactions with them? That's what I will be exploring next.

Here, the designer experimented with different materials and designs to make objects 'express' themselves. Objects are able to achieve numerous purposes; objects can elicit emotion, products can comfort you and objects can let you know if they are too cold or hot to touch.

Idea 1:

Make something three dimensional, an actual object, this links in with my research into the emotion expression in objects also into my earlier idea to do with objectified, but presents this is in a unclear and abstract way.

Idea 2:

Another idea i had was to design a series of stickers illustrating the basic needs that we have in every day. Due to people understanding clearer on their daily objects. I sketched out some different objects demonstrating the emotions of my own or (possibly a small group of people in public) about them. Maybe some of them are we have in current and some of them that we had in past. How they get developed and have became different now?..... I think the comparison will be interesting.
